Stronger gas wells where liquid loading is in initial stages. Coiled tubing wells where the "flash" remains and the sealing efficiency is not critical.
Steel mandrel with grooves machined on the outer surface. May be solid or hollow, generally with no by-pass. Also available in special materials.
Basic plunger viewed as a "starter" plunger on stronger wells. Both the solid and hollow models have grooves machined on the outer surface to create a "turbulent" seal. Has minimal wear tendencies because it is cut to tubing drift or smaller. This plunger can be efficient when loading is first encountered. However, as wells continue to decline, it's important to change to a tool with a more efficient seal.
